The school year is moving right along. I can't believe it is already October! I wanted to share a quick conversation I had with a student this week. This is one of the many reasons I love teaching 1st grade.
I sat down with a reading group and ask one student if I could listen to her read for a little bit. She said, "My heart is pounding so hard!" I asked her if she was nervous or worried about reading to me. She replied, "No! I'm just so excited to read to you, I really want to read this book!" I smiled at her and she got started reading and did a fantastic job!
It is so cool to watch students learn to read and even more fun to watch them develop a love for reading themselves. It is very rare that a kiddo ever turns down the opportunity to read to me and I love that. No matter if kids are fluent readers or emergent readers, it is great to see their desire to want to read! Let me also take a quick moment to say thank you to the volunteers who come in to work with reading groups during the week. An even bigger thanks to all the families that encourage a love of reading at home!
Happy Reading!
